Queen Victoria’s tree was laden with edible treats. One traditional sweet, which is also a feast for the eyes, is German lebkuchen.

Lebkuchen is similar to gingerbread, but is made with honey instead of molasses.

My Grandma Helen usually makes hers ahead of time to allow the cookies to mellow, and to allow plenty of time for decorating.

When they are complete, she ties ribbon around the cookies so they can hang right on the tree!
