Laura Abbott, fitness coordinator, says, “We have 11 exercise physiologists on staff full time, and nine massage therapists. Our Mobile Health/Health Promotions unit has 10 full-time, degreed health promotion staff.” Everyone on Health Place’s exercise staff has a degree in exercise physiology, and all of its dietitians are registered and licensed. It also has an athletic trainer on staff, a Master’s-level exercise physiologist for its children’s programs, and another Master’s-level exercise physiologist for its older adult programs.
As for services, all members receive a complimentary fitness evaluation, and a strength and dietary consult. Since the facility serves many people with health risks, all of its members fill out a Health History Questionnaire, and the center follows the American College of Sports Medicine’s standards and guidelines for who must have medical clearance.
One of the facility’score programs is its post-rehab Special Populations Conditioning Program, which uses exercise physiologists, massage therapists and physicians to help individuals who have either orthopedic or medical conditions make lifestyle changes. These changes include exercise prograams, stress management (through massage), functional training for daily living and more. “We have worked with stroke patients, heart patients, people with head injuries, people with cancer and more in a post-rehab setting,” says Abbott.
